Reviews

"The wine offers terrific fruit intensity together with fine polished tannins, making the wine flavoursome and beautifully harmonious. At its best: now to 2026." - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Deep red colour with a good purple tint. The bouquet is rich, ripe plum, the palate also deep and fleshy, and reliant on fruit rather than artifact. A good wine, balanced and accessible at this stage but with some ageing potential." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review

Description

Shiraz is without doubt South Australia’s flag-bearer red wine, capable of expressing distinctive regional and even more defined single vineyard identities, no matter where it thrives. The Coonawarra perhaps flies a little under the shiraz radar, though here you have discovered an absolute gem from an elegant northern district site which has brought to the fore delightful crimson berry and plum fruit crush characters in a medium to full bodied carriage, spot-on evidence that Coonawarra shiraz can express cooler-climate sensibilities. As these notes reverberate with fresh, zesty red fruit flavours, the wine’s undercurrent of soft, yet lively, acidity and tannin add a great line and length to the drinking. Delicious, and right in the pocket of contemporary shiraz expression.

Vintage Description

Vintage 2016 was early, with a warmer October advancing the whole season, such that flowering, veraison, and harvest dates were all slightly early. Despite the early season, the time taken for berry development and ripening were in line with normal, allowing adequate time for fruit to develop tannins and complexity. November temperatures were warm which was ideal, with reds showing outstanding colour and tannins facilitated by a very even veraison, small berry size, and milder ripening conditions later in vintage. The cooler finish allowed longer hang time contributing to rich medium bodied wines with excellent fruit definition.
