Reviews

"Gorgeous layers of dark fruits and vanilla oak together with cake spice, game and cocoa lead the way to a wonderfully gratifying palate that’s succulent and velvety. It’s sumptuous and opulent with fabulous complexity, finishing impressively long and delicious. At its best: now to 2032." - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Deep red/purple colour, with a rich dark chocolate bouquet reflecting warm-grown ripe fruit and lots of oak. Mocha and cocoa powder. It's very rich and dense, full-bodied and the tannins while chewy are quite supple. An excellent wine in a strongly oak-infused style. It has future potential." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review

Description

The epitome of ideal Australian shiraz from one of its premier source regions, McLaren Vale. The carefully selected fruit for this outing brings to the glass a plethora of richness with elegance, so you find yourself absorbed in waves of flavour and aroma without any palate heaviness which often can weigh down the variety. Here delightfully sweet, fine-tuned dark fruits – blackberry and plum compote come to mind – stand out front of a background of regionally typical dark chocolate, a perfect marriage tweaked sip by sip with darker spice notes and seductive American oak complexities developed from 18 months maturation, mastered and sculpted into silky smooth palate textures, soft, plush and totally comforting.

Vintage Description

Vintage 2017 in the McLaren Vale was highly successful with above average crops and minimal faults. Winter weather conditions help set up early growth, with above average rainfall leading to full soil profiles. Spring was significantly wetter than average but weather patterns during flowering were relatively stable and dry. Harvest began later than in 2016, with picking continuing into late April. Excellent vintage for Shiraz -lively, bright, spicy, vibrant, and elegant.
